In August, Ellen and I visited Iceland
to climb and ski their tallest mountain
- Hvannadalshnukur. It is in their
National Park - Skaftafell - and is
covered by Europe's largest glacier -
Vatnajokull. Just as I was reaching the
rim of the caldera at about 6,000 feet,
clouds were coming in, reducing
visibility to the point that retracing
my steps down was my chosen option. Even
though we didn't make the top or ski it
due to conditions, we had a great
adventure that we hope to share with all
of you in a future program.
Enjoy the mountains,
Alvin Walter, Ski Mountaineering
Chairman
