May 2008 Race Report

Hello racers,

Our last races of the season are over. The Far West Championships were held at Mammoth and 6 members of our race team raced. We had Dave Ellis, David Bowes, Dave Moody, Erin Barber, Jim White, and myself. There were 2 races, Saturday a Slalom and Sunday a GS. We were competing against everyone west of the Rockies.

Here’s how we did:
Slalom:
Jerry Stokely: 1st S4 Strike
Erin Barber 3rd S6
David Bowes 1st S9 Double Strike
Jim White 4th S8

GS:
Jerry Stokely 2nd S3
Erin Barber 2nd S6
David Moody 3rd S7
David Bowes 1st S8 Double Strike Again!
Jim White 5th S8
Dave Ellis 1st S9 Double Strike
David Bowes 1st Monoski.

That’s 11 awards.

What a great trip! We really sacked the awards. I don’t think any other club did as well as we did. Congratulations to our team! Now let’s Celebrate.

The Alpine League “Awards Happy Hour” is coming up- this 9th of May, Friday at 5PM at Leilani’s. All Alpine League members are welcome. There’s free food and $3.00 drinks. We’re sure to get plenty of medals for our racing this season. Come on out and join us.

Our San Diego Ski Club Awards Banquet is also coming up this month on Tuesday, May 20th. More awards and trophies will be awarded. You need to pre-select your dinner so get in touch with Dave Moody. See the dinner flier in this Ullr Newsletter.

I want to congratulate all our racers this season, and thank those of you who made a real effort to improve your racing, either at the Rokka camp or race training with me. It is a real joy to see those of you that I have been working with jump to the next level or 2 after a few days of coaching. I’ve seen huge improvements in your skiing in just a few hours of training. There is an open invitation to any of you who want to train with me. Just come up on a race weekend.

Have a GREAT summer, and if I can leave any of you- racing or not- with some advice for improvement, it would be to go to ROKKA camp the first week of December.

There’s still plenty of snow, and I will be sure to find plenty more turns in it. Maybe we’ll see you there.
